Have you ever received a sign from a loved one?

Have you ever received a sign from a loved one?

I’ve been noticing a special significance between birds and departed souls these past few years.

An eagle soaring overhead. A little sparrow right on my path. A crow perching across from me, catching my attention, then gracefully gliding right past my head.

This Easter

On April 5, Easter Sunday, my half sister, who was born with a lifelong serious illness that kept her wheelchair-bound, died suddenly. I had intuitions this was coming, but the sudden-ness was a shock. She died right after Easter Brunch with family.

We were not there. We had been with other family on the Oregon coast over spring break in a home overlooking the sea. Every day that week, we were delighted by the appearance of a pair of ruby-throated hummingbirds.

I can’t tell you how special those hummingbirds were. There was a fairy-like, otherworldly quality to them. The ruby glowed like a living, breathing jewel, and the birds were so happy and playful.

Bird Messengers

In the days between my sister’s passing and the funeral, I noticed the most perfect, plump little birds everywhere. I’d not noticed them before. They reminded me of her. The day of her funeral, as were were exiting the cremation chamber, I looked up and saw a larger bird soaring right over the top threshold of the entrance. The vision was prophetic. Her spirit was soaring free.

Later that day, a sweet little sparrow-like bird found itself trapped inside the temple. It was trying to escape, but the window was closed. My sister-in-law safely caught it in her hands, took it outside, and set it free.

The Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds

But the most interesting and heartwarming sign was this. My aunt sent a condolence card, and on the front of the card is a ruby-throated hummingbird. I hadn’t even had a chance to tell her about them.

Signs are all around us. Sometimes we may feel we’re lending significance, but other times, these messages are so obvious they beg for our sincere attention, awe, and appreciation.

With Love,

Krishanti
