Your Intuition & The Art of Second-Guessing Yourself

There is one simple, easy, and most natural way to work with your intuition. It’s so basic it’s often ignored or dismissed.

Your FIRST Impression

Your first feeling, instinct, vibe, or impression about a person or situation is directly connected to your intuition. This is the FIRST gut feeling or sense that you get, and it is accurate.

What tends to happen is that either the person you’re reading, or other people, or society, or your own doubts based on your life experiences, will try to get you to second-guess yourself.

The Art of Second-Guessing Yourself

Second-guessing yourself is so common it’s like its own art form.

It’s very, very easy to second-guess yourself when you are relying solely on your intuition and gut feelings, and not analytical evidence. The world loves rational explanations. Your intuition doesn’t work like that.

And so what happens in cases where you don’t trust your gut is that you think “Oh, I’m just exaggerating things” or “Maybe they aren’t really all that bad and I’m over-reacting” or “Maybe this opportunity will be good even though I am not so sure.”

How to Trust Your First Impressions

Trusting your first impressions takes bravery. And you hold the keys to your own personal journey. You can decide how you want to work with your first intuitive impressions. Here are some ideas of what you can do:

Work with people: Start noticing how you immediately feel about any and all new people you meet. Take notes. It doesn’t matter if you are seeing them once or if you will see them again; just notice how you feel and keep a record. You might also take note of how the people you already know are feeling/what their vibes are like when you connect with them.

Over time, like a field researcher, your notes will start to make sense, and you will have confirmation that your first intuitive impressions were correct. This is the fun part.

Try this with decisions you have to make, situations, and more.

Remember that you do not have to take action on your intuitive impressions until you feel safe and ready to. This is your life, your world, and you get to work with it under your own terms.

Stay true to yourself and don’t share your impressions with anyone until you have a strong baseline of confidence. Without that, others may try and denounce your intuitive impressions, which you do not need at this time.

We have all been in situations where we discounted our first impressions or second-guessed our intuition. With practice, you can build more explicit trust in yourself and how your intuition presents itself to you.
