Happy New Year!
We are all a spark of the divine, each of us a little bright light in the world. Sometimes our light dims when we’re faced with challenging life circumstances, like pain, illness, sorrow, betrayal, and emptiness. A lot of the people who come to see me are sad. They feel lonely and misunderstood. These days, when it’s easier to find out what friends and family are up to via Facebook than it is to connect with them over the phone and in person, many people feel lost and disconnected. They catch up with one another via text, and that’s that. The responsibility to keep up, to meet face-to-face, or even to have a phone conversation, is too much of a burden. But that’s not right. It feels off, and wrong – and somewhere, if not on the surface, but deep down – we know it.
We’re not meant to be alone. If that was the case, why would God, or the Universe, have our genesis based on the merging of two people, an event that brings us into a world in which we’re immediately connected to relatives like siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers? We start this life in the company of others, and the journey is meant to be shared.
Being part of a good, strong, supportive community is essential to the well-being of the soul. We need to see one another, to share our triumphs and sorrows, to look out for each other, to be there in good times and bad.
The next time you think of someone you love this New Year, try calling them, and leaving a message if they don’t pick up. Make more of an effort to actually connect in person, to talk, to see how friends and family are REALLY doing. Give of yourself, and expect others to give back. If they don’t, you don’t have to keep pushing – just know that now is not the right time, and continue to seek love and acceptance in other relationships.
People out there really, truly love you, and want you to be a part of their lives.
Ivan has a book called On the Night You Were Born:
“On the night you were born,
the moon smiled with such wonder
that the stars peeked in to see you
and the night wind whispered,
“Life will never be the same.”
Because there had never been anyone like you…
ever in the world.”
Share your beauty, and your light, and your love. We need you. The world needs you.
Sending you lots and lots of love, and best wishes for a wonderful 2014!
