Do animals and humans ever cross over when it comes to reincarnation?

To be honest with you, I don’t have empirical scientific evidence of that. Who does?!?

But I can tell you, our dear cat Aloysius seems incredibly human (he is reclining across my lap as I am trying to type this), while sweet Coco is *extremely* feline (she will have nothing to do with computers).

I’ve heard tell that some spiritual folk believe there’s no crossover between animals and humans when it comes to reincarnation. HOWEVER, whoever thinks that is overlooking one important truth: humans ARE animals! And therefore…would it not seem possible that some humans reincarnate as animals and vice-versa?

While there’s no proof of any of this, there’s one thing we can all agree on; animals are amazing. They teach us lessons and help us to give and receive pure, unadulterated love. I’ve had the honor of connecting with many animals whose spirits are definitely a part of a tribe of mega powerful healers. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about! There are regular animals, and then there are *magical* ones. Just like people!

I just wanted to muse about the whole notion of animals and reincarnation here in this chat. New Fun Things!

I just added a couple of new free meditations to the store page of this website. One is on increasing your self-worth and self-love, and the other is on attracting more abundance into your life. Check them out and let me know what you think!

At the bottom of the page, you’ll see I also added a new meditation that I’m calling the Energetic Facelift/Beautification Healing Meditation. When you work with color, vibration, and energy, you can literally shift the cells and molecules that make up your body (which is made entirely of energy anyway!) and create positive changes. Since everyone wants to look better in some way or another, I thought this would be a fun meditation to use on a regular basis. It’s only $15 – less than anything you’d find at Sephora and a lot less than a real face lift!

Recently, a colleague and I exchanged notes on the sessions we do, and how some people are wonderful and easy to work with, while others are so difficult and negative that we just want to hang up the phone and be done with it. If you are at all considering getting a reading for yourself, you need to understand 100% that you are just as responsible for the outcome of your session as the person who is reading you or working with your energy. That said, here are some major dos and don’ts to follow before you book a session with anyone in the healing arts.

DON’T be Down, Dark, and in the Dumps.

If you want the best healing session possible, DO NOT arrive in emergency-drama-panic-fear mode. For starters, it is energetically irresponsible and just plain rude for you to come to your session dark, down, and negative, expecting the reader/healer to zap through your cloud of turmoil, turn you around, make you happy, give you all the answers, and make it all better in 60 minutes or less.

Yes, you may be in pain, but a reading is not a place to dump your shit like some kind of Exxon oil spill. It will only give you temporary relief, anyway. Breathe, calm yourself down, and get into a more decent space before a session. Ask your questions from an empowered place, knowing that YOU are in charge of your destiny and your life. As you do this, your energy will naturally become more centered and balanced. And this is what you need in order to direct your life from a higher vibration of love and light.

DO say a prayer and set an intention for yourself before your session.

It can be as formal or informal as you’d like it to be, but it will be extremely helpful for you to acknowledge Higher Power and pray/request that you receive the highest level of positive information and healing during your session. Ask that you and the reader/healer are both guided in the light, and that you hear what you need to hear so that you can be in alignment with God and the universe in order to be happy, to thrive, to be of service, and to grow your soul.

DON’T expect a reader or energy healer to magically FIX you.

You need to do the work in your life. A reading or healing session will help shift your energy and give you insight into what you need to do next in order to repair your life or get back on track, but it will not do the work for you. Don’t blame your practitioner if things aren’t going the way you want them to. Do some soul-searching and accept responsibility for your own energy, your own karma, and your own choices.

DO BE OPEN to what comes through.

One of the hardest things for readers is telling people what the NEED TO KNOW, which is not always what they WANT TO HEAR. In fact, this is personally one of my biggest struggles because I hate to piss people off. Once, a woman asked me why a certain man didn’t like her. It turns out he would rather be with someone homely and COOL that someone really pretty and BITCHY. Sadly, she fell into the latter category. She didn’t want to hear that, but it was the truth. She had asked me to tell the truth, and I did. She also got angry with me when I said her wedding date might not be until a few years down the line. She specifically asked me to look into the future and get that information for her, and when I did, she didn’t like it. Talk about dark, angry, and negative! In any event, that brings me to the next DO, which is…

DO ask how you can change (or best direct) your future. 

If you don’t like an answer you get, don’t be angry. Ask how you can change it. God gave you free will, which means that even if a reader sees that things might turn out a certain way, you can totally change it. Nobody can predict the future with 100% accuracy, because we all have free will.

DON’T expect to IMMEDIATELY understand everything the person says during a session.

Be open, let the information sink in, and mull things over. I recently had two separate sessions with two different readers. The first one mentioned something to me which was interesting but didn’t really make sense to me at the time. When the second one uttered the EXACT SAME WORDS in the same sentence, I gasped. This was something I needed to really pay attention to!!! And I listened. It is still making more sense to me as the weeks pass by, and I’m mostly just marveling at the incredibly magical way in which things can unfold when you’re open, willing to receive guidance, tuned in and paying attention.

DO ask how you can heal yourself, connect with God, and receive your own guidance.

Since the dawn of mankind, people have become used to giving their power away. That cycle is now ending. We are entering into an era now where we are gaining more truth and knowledge about God, creation, energy, and how the universe works. This means every single person alive has permission to talk to God, to be psychic, to be authentically powerful, to heal themselves and heal others. We are on equal playing ground here. Information is EVERYWHERE, literally at our very fingertips. So why not ask your practitioner how you can get more aligned with your own inner guidance? A true healer will be THRILLED that you’re asking empowering questions like this, as this is the direction we are all being called to follow.

It’s really important that you stay focused, calm, centered and grounded during a session. Know that only YOU can truly heal your life. A reader or energy healer can offer you sound guidance and help to re-align your energies so that you remember how powerful you really are. But you have to do the work. You have to stop making the same mistakes. You have to be responsible for how you think, how you run your own energy, what you eat, what you do, and what you say. Remember that you chose to experience everything you are now experiencing, and there is a reason for all of it.


Being grounded means you’re centered, fully present and aware of what’s going on around you, and you’re calm, alert, and “plugged in.” When you’re grounded, your spirit and your consciousness is connected to your body. You’re right here, right now. When you’re not grounded, you’re floaty, you’re here, but not really here, and you tune out the world around you. You’re caught up in your thoughts and you’re sort of out to lunch. For some people, being ungrounded is more comfortable than being fully present, because it’s easier to tune out the sad reality around them than it is to be fully aware of it. It becomes a basic coping mechanism, a way to deal with things they don’t like. But unfortunately, when you’re always ungrounded, the things you’re tuning out aren’t going to change much, because you’re not present enough to change them.

The more grounded you are, the more power you have to get things done and to direct your life from a place of strength and ease. People who are grounded are great at manifesting on the physical plane, because you have to be fully engaged in the physical world in order to manifest at that physical level. When you’re ungrounded, you’re pretty much walking around like an empty shell, just letting your body go through the motions.

So how do you know if you’re grounded or not? Here are 9 warning signs to watch out for:

1.You’ve realize you’ve been driving, jogging, cycling or rowing a boat for 10 minutes and you don’t remember what you’ve passed by
2. You’re listening to someone talk but don’t HEAR what they are saying
3. You realize you’ve been thinking about a person or problem or a problem with a person for so long you can’t remember how you got onto that tangent
4. You can’t concentrate on easy things like basic math (with a calculator)
5. You feel floaty and spacey
6. You aren’t focusing on what you’re doing
7. You can’t make a decision to save your life
8. You’d rather escape into a book or movie than live your life
9. You don’t realize what your body feels like to you – you feel disconnected from reality

Being grounded means being fully present in the now. Your consciousness is aware of everything that’s going on in the physical world, very connected to your body, and very connected to the earth – strong and secure, like an ancient oak tree, with roots going deep into the earth. Trees like this don’t get blown over very easily. However, when you’re ungrounded, you’re like a sapling with roots barely skimming the surface of the soil. You can get blown away in the blink of an eye.

If you notice you do all of the 9 things above all of the time, or some of them some of the time, just pay attention to when these things happen – and when they do, make a conscious effort to “snap” yourself back to the present moment. Direct your attention to the things right in front of you. Stomp your feet and wiggle your toes. Clap your hands and snap your fingers. Take a deep breath, and notice what the air you breathe in smells like. Do something physical – move your body, jump up and down, stretch, take a walk, work outside or in the kitchen. With practice, you’ll find yourself more and more in tune with the present moment, and you’ll gradually become more and more grounded in your everyday life.

Very few people can honestly say they don’t judge or criticize others. I can’t. Can you? In fact, many of us see things in black and white (whether we are aware of it or not), righteously and firmly planted in the belief that we are right, and others are wrong…or assuming that we know what other people’s motives are, but really, in essence, having no idea. When we judge people or events, we create constricting energy that boxes up our own vibration, and even holds back the progress of our collective consciousness. Think about it – do you ever really feel good when you’re judging or criticizing someone else? No. It puts you in an ugly, closed-off space. And in order to thrive and grow, you need to feel good, and to be in a strong, positive vibration. When you judge someone for being an ass, you’re the ass, too – because you’re all caught up in criticizing and judging them. And that’s not cool.

It’s not always easy to switch over to non-critical thoughts, though – so here are 5 ways to suspend judgement and get into the zone of all-for-one goodness:

1. Just Knock it Off.
Easier said than done, right? But honestly, you’ve gotta stop at some point. Try this: the minute you start thinking negatively about someone, stop yourself mid-thought and ask yourself why you’re going there, and correct the action while it’s happening. Either pull yourself into the present moment and train your brain to think about and focus on something else, or, if you have the time, take a moment to write down what you think about that person;  if you’re angry, get it out! And then crumple up the piece of paper, throw it out, and be done with it (until the next critical thought comes up – and when it does, and it will, do this again, and again, and again, until you finally end the cycle.).
2. Walk in Their Shoes
Don’t think for a moment that you can know what ANYONE’S life is like until you walk in their shoes. You have no idea – you really, really have no idea – what their experience is. Once you can accept that, you can disconnect, unplug, and pull your vibration away from trying to figure out what you think is so wrong about that person’s beliefs or actions. Maybe, at some point or another, you’ll experience something that the person you’re judging is experiencing. Who’s to say you’ll react any better than they did, or do? You can’t know their journey until you take it yourself.
3. Don’t Assume ANYTHING.
Remember that to assume makes an ASS out of YOU and ME. Don’t assume anything. You could be seriously wrong.
4. Create a loving heart. 
Work on opening yourself up to being a lover, not a hater. Start by recognizing the people and animals you love easily, and allow your love to grow. Smile more. Imagine the asshole honking at you in traffic is your son or grandson, and send him love. Recognize that the telemarketer is just doing her job, and send her love. Each morning, commit to having a loving heart, and to create a loving world. It won’t work overnight, but in time, you will cultivate a loving vibration that is much higher spiritually than criticism or judgement.
5. Know that it’s not about you.
A huge reason why we’re so critical and judgmental is that we act from our egos, taking life ever-so-personally. But no matter who you feel critical of – parents, children, friends, co-workers, bad doctors or dentists – pull yourself out of the interaction and truly realize that it’s not about you. People will act the way they’re going to act, regardless of whether you’re there or not. And you can’t change that.
It takes a ton of effort to turn off criticism and judgement in a world that embraces it so wholeheartedly (just turn on the TV or pick up a tabloid), but once you begin to practice suspending these thoughts and vibrations, you’ll realize that you actually feel better, and that it’s a lighter way of being. I’m trying to adjust my thoughts and beliefs, and I feel happier when I’m more understanding about people and less huffy-puffy, in a tizzy, or mad at them for whatever they’re doing that I perceive is uncool. When you’re truly un-judgemental, your energy flows, and your vibration lightens up. Change starts with one person, and you, too, can be an influencer in this new thought movement, making a difference that contributes to elevating the vibration of our entire planetary consciousness. I’d say that’s worth trying for.
