What is Clairvoyance?

This past weekend we went to an amazing birthday party for Ivan’s 4 year old friend and there was a big fat lizard who changed colors that they were teaching the kids about. He happened to have a little teeny tiny eye on top of his head so he could see birds above who might want to eat him and it made me think of our third eye.

I’ve always thought Clairvoyance was such a funny, old-timey word! I picture Victorian ladies doing séances in candle-lit parlors with lace doilies. But really it’s just a basic ability everyone can tap into (though those who are naturally more visual and imaginative will find it easier to work with). If you’re not so visual, fret now! Your skill will probably be in clairaudience, instant knowing, or just plain old intuition – more videos on that to come, or look for tips and articles on the blog.

I learned how to be psychic, and so for me Clairvoyance is two things. First, basically it’s a method of tapping into your intuition by using your imagination and visualizing pictures that deliver information. If you can read a book and imagine what’s going on in your mind’s eye, you’re using your clairvoyance. Secondly, Clairvoyance is a school of training, a method by which instructors teach students how to use their clairvoyance and do clairvoyant readings and healings. The school that started all of this was the Berkeley Psychic Institute. I learned through the International School of Clairvoyance, founded by my teacher and friend Debra Lynne Katz.

So I did a session with a woman who was having a hard time with her sort-of ex. Here’s what happened in a nutshell: He cheated on his wife with her (the client), and then his marriage ended and he and his wife got a divorce. He and the client were really in love, and I can honestly say that when I viewed the magnetism between the two of them it was very powerful. HOWEVER, he was so guilty over the end of his marriage that he couldn’t be with the client. He’d be drawn to her and they’d spend days together and have a wonderful time, but then he’d feel so much guilt that he’d tell her it was over and there was no way he could ever or would ever want to be with her again.

Bummer.

Just so you know, my job is to be totally objective here, so there is absolutely no judgement on my part. It’s not my business.

Ok, so in the client’s session, she asked about how he was feeling because they’d stopped communicating. And I did a classic clairvoyant healing technique to clear the lines of communication between them. (It is VERY, VERY UNETHICAL to do energy work on another person without their permission, but you can do techniques to heal and clear whatever can be healed between two people, with the permission of Higher Power/God and divine healing light energy.)

And wouldn’t you know, he came back around and they had a wonderful few days together again. It was sublime.

But then he went dark again.

Incommunicado.

And she asked about doing another session. And I was going to say ok fine, but then I realized something. She could continue to have me do relationship healings on this (I told her how to do it but she didn’t feel she could do it) until the cows came home, but the bottom line is, the DUDE needs to do the work too, or the same old cycle is going to happen again and again.

If you feel like you’re on an emotional roller coaster with someone, a clairvoyant session and/or energy healings can work, and might even really help repair things, but they still won’t change the other person. They have to do that for themselves -if, and only if, they want to and are ready.

And that’s that!


Clairvoyance, or Clear Seeing, involves seeing things through your mind’s eye, or the lense of your imagination, and then interpreting what you see.

Everything is Based on Pictures

It’s based on the notion that everything that comprises your reality is based on pictures that are charged with energy. These pictures are the foundation of everything. They can be solid pictures taken from something you’ve seen or experienced before, or pictures from the collective unconscious.

When you work with pictures, you can start to change them, and therefore change your reality. Clairvoyant schools teach a method whereby you “blow up” a picture charged with an emotion, and then move the energy that infuses that picture and heal yourself.

How to Heal a Matching Picture

Let’s say you have a major fear about something. All you have to do to heal this fear is to take a few minutes to quiet your mind and go within, then create an image or symbol of a rose in your imagination. Let that rose fill up with the energy of what you’re fearing, or what the fear really stems from, and don’t judge or try to interpret what you see. Just let it be.

You might get a sense or feeling about what comes up, or simply have an understanding of what that picture symbolizes.

Next, just direct that rose to explode, and know that as that picture disappears, so does the energy that charges it, as well as it’s hold on you. Take as much time as you need to. And when it disappears completely, you’re done. Simple as that.

You might want to create more roses around this subject, or just be done with it and see how you feel.

It’s Simple

Don’t get tricked by the simplicity of this. It doesn’t have to be complicated to work. The more simple the process, the more powerful. The trick is allowing yourself to get into the right mindset, and to firmly believe and understand that you are working in the subtle realms of energy and clairvoyance.

How Clairvoyance Works

I cringe when people call me a Psychic, because I’m totally NOT. I’m someone who learned HOW TO BE PSYCHIC, and there’s a difference!

I learned how to do readings and healings by following a very specific method of training, involving meditation and working with visualizing and understanding mental pictures.

Clairvoyance is not some out-there concept, though I must admit it does sound pretty Victorian and old-timey. It’s basically allowing energy to appear as an image or images in your mind’s eye, and then taking those images and allowing them to show you an answer to whatever question you’re posing.

When you read a fictional book and imagine what the characters and scenes look like, you’re using the same mental faculties you’d use when you’re being clairvoyant.

In fact, it’s so ridiculously simple I can boil it down to three basic steps:

1. Quiet your mind to the point where you get into trance mode

2. Ask yourself a question, and then…

3. Allow images to come into your mind’s eye and just take note of what they look and feel like.

It is as basic as that. Now, because we’re not always used to using our brain this way, a lot of clairvoyant training programs teach you to first just see a color or colors, and then direct that into a viewing receptacle such as a rose or a bubble. Then, that rose or bubble takes on a life of it’s own, giving you clues that help to answer whatever question you’ve posed.

It just takes practice.

We are all psychic, and we are all intuitive. Everyone has the ability to access some degree of clairvoyance in order to gain a deeper level of understanding and meaning – it just takes a little time, effort, focus, and patience with the whole process. Clairvoyance means clear seeing, and involves letting your imagination show you pictures as a way of explaining things. Clairaudience means clear hearing, and involves hearing messages as guidance. Empathy, or clairsentience, means clear feeling, in the form of sensations that tell you about certain people or situations.

Many who are just beginning to tap into their psychic abilities have a hard time interpreting the information that comes through, and this is where a lot of patience is required.

Psychic info can be tough to decipher, because the very notion of interpretation leads you down the path of analysis, which forces you to use the logical side of your brain to make sense of the information that the imaginative side of your brain is intuiting.

That logical side of the brain loves to label psychic information as ridiculous, un-trustworthy, and weird.

But being psychic about something really means letting go of control and trusting that what comes through makes sense on some level, even if it’s not immediately apparent.

Here are 3 common problem areas when it comes to understanding the messages you’re receiving, and how to work with/around them.

Problem:
When tuning in to gather information on an issue or problem, clairvoyant images pop up that seem totally random and make no sense.

Solution:
If the random images you see are troubling and bothersome, take action and either destroy them by blowing them up on your screen, or send them off into outer space or another realm where they disappear. If the images don’t bother you, but just don’t make sense, record them in a notebook so that you can come back to them later. Often, images that seemingly make no sense end up making complete sense later on – we just need the present moment to catch up to them. From my experience, it’s the images that seem to make no sense at all that end up making the most sense of all.
Problem:
Clairaudient messages (which typically come through as thoughts, not as external voices talking to you) aren’t reliable. One day you’ll be certain you’re hearing that you need to turn off the iron, but when you go to check it, it’s already off. Another day, you’ll hear that your friend is going to cancel at the last minute, and sure enough, she does.

Solution:

When first working with clairaudience, it takes a lot of people time to sense the guided messages from the regular mental OCD-type messages. I believe the OCD-type messages are just your ego mind throwing up some resistance into the mix. Many people I’ve worked with have told me they always have a running conversation going on with themselves, and have done so for as long as they can remember. So, imagine how that self you’re always talking to feels when suddenly this running conversation isn’t good enough for you anymore, and you’re only tuning into guided or higher-self messages? It takes time and effort to distinguish true guidance from self-talk, but what you will notice is that the more enlightened clairaudient messages tend to be really calm, strong, quiet, and clear. Non-enlightened messages from your ego mind tend to sound worried, long-winded, or shallow.

Problem:
You get a bad feeling, or feel anxious or nervous about a person or situation for some reason, but you don’t know why.

Solution:
Take it from me; being empathic is more of a curse than a gift, because it’s extremely hard to feel something in your physical body and then try and figure out if it’s from you, the person next to you, or the client you’re going to be seeing in an hour. Sometimes you have to just wait for the person or situation to reveal itself to you, and when it does, the feeling you had dissipates. If you don’t want to wait, however, you can first just put your hand over your solar plexus chakra and ask, “Why am I feeling like this?” and wait to see what type of guidance you receive either through instant knowing, clairvoyance, or clairaudience. You can also just sit for a moment and think about the major areas of, or people in, your life, and do a clairvoyant test to see which one of these it is. For instance, create a symbol for your work, and then ask, “Am I feeling bad because there’s something going on at work?” and see what you get. Or, think about the people in your life and notice if you feel worse when focusing on someone in particular. Then, use your clairvoyant skills to see what/why you’re sensing this.If you are working on developing your psychic skills and are looking for a community to practice with, I recommend checking out my teacher Debra Katz’s online group, Seventh Sight, which is comprised of a community of like-minded people working to expand and develop their intuitive skills. Also, remember – the key to getting the most out of your psychic abilities is to quiet your mind. This meditation I recorded will help – memorize it, and run through it every time you sit down to work on a problem you’d like your intuition to tackle, and you’ll notice a difference.
