I don’t talk about this a lot, but my entire childhood was steeped in metaphysics and spirituality. And because of that, I NEVER in a million years would have thought I’d be devoting my life to spiritual work. My main entry into this world as an adult was through psychic and clairvoyant development, which made it all much more magical and fun and not boring like it was when I was a kid.
As a child, I had to sit through long boring lectures and was forced to meditate, which I firmly believe no child should be forced to do. It was not fun. It was arduous. It had me rolling my eyes like there’s no tomorrow.
Nowadays, when I watch people talk about spirituality, I see a lot of similar lecture type things taking place, and nothing makes me want to tune out more than a long, dry, convoluted lecture.
Which got me thinking: where did this whole lecture thing come from? And then I got it: CHURCH!
Religions were all about keeping people in order and getting them to be good. A lot of religions put the fear of God into people so they would behave. Christian church gatherings were about sitting on a hard wooden bench and being lectured to.
Nowadays, things are changing. In fact I went to mass with a friend not too long ago and really liked the service. But the idea that being really spiritual and having that be hard is still with me and I think with a lot of us. We feel like we have to be serious, to be uber devoted, to not laugh or have fun or be silly.
What I have seen in the psychic work that I’ve done, though, is that we grow the most and are most protected (I talk about psychic protection in the video above too as it’s something I have really had to work on) when we are happy and enjoying ourselves and feeling good. Not arduous or overly serious: happy!
So, no, intensive spirituality does not have to be and really should not be arduous. Nor should you have to sit and be lectured by someone you don’t want to be lectured by. The world is filled with many spiritual teachers, so if you feel so inclined, explore, read, and follow as many people and modalities as you’d like to, or don’t follow anyone and link straight up to Higher Power yourself.
It used to be that the high people in organized religion represented the regular people’s link to God; they were the emissaries of God. Nowadays, we are allowed and invited to bypass the middle man and go straight to God ourselves, and that experience of God can be however, whenever, and whatever we want it to be. That kind of freedom means FUN, too! The universe does have a sense of humor and it’s great to experience that.
That same goes for any work you are doing to improve yourself. The minute you change the idea that it’s hard, punishing labor and get in the zone of creativity and fun, everything will shift and you will absolutely notice that.
So, out with the boring lectures and self-recrimination and in with the spirit of fun and happiness!
